Northern College is a post-secondary institution with three major campuses and numerous satellite locations serving a catchment area of 58,000 square miles covering northern and northeastern Ontario. Northern College offers one-, two- and three-year programs leading graduates to employment in the fields of technology, business, applied arts and health sciences. Businesses and industries are well served by Northern College's Training and Development Division.

Areas of Expertise

The Mining Engineering Technology (co-op) broad-based program integrates the studies of geology, metallurgy, surveying and mining.



The Welding Engineering Technology (co-op) program, which is unique in Canada, offers students the opportunity to study in welding metallurgy, design, welding circuits and computer applications.



Our Child and Youth Worker program integrates both academic and practice-oriented studies. It includes an extensive Group Activity Lab whereby second-year students work with youth from the local schools experiencing emotional and behavioral problems. Finally, our third year includes two semesters (32 weeks) of fieldwork studies allowing students the opportunity to further enhance knowledge and skills acquired during the initial two years of their program.



Other unique programs include Veterinary Technician and Internet Web Site Development.

On Campus Housing

Northern College has a residence at its Timmins campus, with 103 single rooms, 12 suites and four double rooms. There is a 34 room residence at its Kirkland Lake campus, and more rooms at the Haileybury Campus residence. As the demand for residence accommodation usually exceeds the spaces available, students are asked to return the residence application with a $250.00 deposit fee as early as possible.

Off Campus Housing

Board and/or rooming facilities are available in the campus communities. The College maintains a housing registry and students are given assistance in finding suitable accommodations.

Special Services

Centre for Students with Disabilities offers individualized support services for students with various disabilities. Campus is fully accessible for handicapped individuals.

International Involvement

Applications are accepted from around the world. Northern has hosted students from Africa, Japan, Malaysia and Hong Kong. The college also enters into partnerships with other countries to provide training resources and to share expertise.
